Class Dojo Messaging Guidelines and Expectations

The primary function of Class Dojo at Farnham Common Village School is to develop a consistent and positive behaviour culture by enabling teachers to reward pupils with Dojos and to celebrate success.

Class Dojo also has a messaging facility and this is just one form of communication used at Farnham Common Village Schools. In order for the system to work efficiently and effectively, this document will clarify the guidelines and expectations around the use of Class Dojo messages.

Once you are linked up to your child’s class then you will be able to contact your child’s class teacher directly through the messaging facility and likewise your child’s class teacher will be able to contact you.

The purpose of these messages are for short, low level communications.

For example:

Hi. Just to let you know that XXX is wearing trainers today as her school shoes are broken. I will get her new ones this weekend. Thank you.

XXX forgot to bring his reading record home yesterday but he read three pages of a book from home.

Here is a photo of the Roman cooking that XXX has done for his Creative Curriculum homework.

Please can I arrange a meeting with to discuss XXX? I can do any day after school; please let me know when would be convenient.

Just to let you know, XXX happened at the weekend so they may be feeling XXX.

Reception and Nursery also use Dojo for parents to send in photos of special occasions and events that children can discuss with the class.

Messaging through Dojo should not be used for more serious discussions, such as sensitive, wellbeing or behavioural issues, or to enquire about the progress of their child. A discussion about an issue will usually be the most effective way of resolving it and / or developing everyone’s understanding of an issue. The messaging facility can be used to arrange a meeting with a class teacher, or a request for a phone call or meeting can be made via the school office.

The following matters should always go through the school office desk:

  • Absence (such as medical appointments)
  • Sickness
  • School dinner enquiries
  • Complaints
  • Urgent messages (e.g. collection of children)

Please be aware that teachers will not usually receive notifications of messages between 4.30pm and 8am the following day and at weekends. Parents/carers should be aware that an immediate response cannot be expected, as the main priority of staff is to teach, and any response needed can only be expected during the working hours.

Messages sent by parents on Class Dojo Messaging can only be viewed by the class teacher. Please do not use Class Dojo to message any other members of the school staff as the Class Dojo system means that they will not normally receive notification of a message. Please send a message via the school office instead. The only exception to this is if you are sending a message to the teacher of an extra Dojo class that your child is a member of e.g. Junior School Choir.

We hope that by clarifying the use of the messaging facility on Class Dojo, we can keep it as a positive tool for parent / carers and staff alike. Many thanks for your ongoing support in this.
