Learning a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience in preparation for future life. It is important that children are aware of the world that they live in and are able to communicate effectively with those around them. At Farnham Common Village School, we teach German to Years 3 and 4 and French to Years 5 and 6, providing children with the opportunity to practice speaking, writing and reading in another language as well as developing their intercultural understanding.
Each Topic starts with a hook of either a song or a story in the Target language, followed by lessons to develop the children's understanding of the Target language and vocabulary. Lessons are taught by a specialist languages teacher.
Each half term we have a lesson dedicated to developing inference and language learning skills, or learning about the culture in the countries where the Target language is spoken.
